Data Storage Solutions

There are many different ways your data can be stored:

  • Direct Attached to a Server
  • Shared Storage using NAS or SAN
  • Unified Storage
  • Outsourced into the "Cloud"

Which one is right for you?

With our expert knowledge of all the above options, we're ideally placed to help guide you through the complex selection process.

Directly Attached Storage

Directly Attached Storage is tends to suite the Small Business environment.

A typical Windows server will be configured with internal disks or will have an external disk cabinet attached directly to the server via a dedicated controller card. Data is protected against disk failure by incorporating standard RAID redundancy, whereby multiple disks are configured to work together in an "disk array".

Shared Storage using NAS or SAN

Shared Storage using NAS or SAN helps businesses consolidate multiple servers with their own storage into a single Shared Storage environment. Direct Attached storage cannot easily be shared between server systems and as data storage needs increase in terms of quantity, speed of access and reliability - a Shared Storage solution should be considered for your organisation.

NAS Storage

NAS Storage provides direct access to users files across your company network. Users can access Windows based (CIFS) or Unix based (NFS) file systems direct from the NAS Appliance, without the need of multiple or dedicated servers.

SAN Storage

SAN Storage meets the customer needs when fast access is required for the application. Servers communicate via Fibre Channel or iSCSI connections to access data at block level, where performance is key in the manipulation and delivery of data.

Unified Storage

Unified Storage is the very latest trend in data storage solutions - where NAS and SAN come together to simplify your entire storage infrastructure under one management umbrella.

Cloud Computing

Cloud Computing can mean a number of things. When you invest in a Shared Storage solution you are in effect building your own "cloud" for data storage, as you are sharing across your organisation all of your information. This can be referred to as a "private cloud"

What is progressing within the IT Industry is the growing trend for businesses to outsource their data storage requirements by investing in a Managed Private Cloud. In this scenario your data is stored and managed by a trusted IT partner who have made the investment in a data storage environment that you are able to access across the internet network.
